A member asked:

Dear radiology doctors. for shoulder mri, is it ok for you if images were taken using new open mri hitachi oasis 1.2 tesla. how good the images vs closed mri with 3.0 tesla? what do you prefer? thanks in advance for any feedback ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Open MRIs are well tolerated by many folks who suffer from claustrophobia, but the images have a somewhat less precise resolution. Yet, most significant lesions will be uncovered, especially in joint procedures. If necessary, an arthrogram with closed equipment, under sedation, could be done subsequently. Ask your doctor.
