True "PCOS" is confirmed by irregular bleeding from endometrial breakdown secondary to sustained estrogen production without ovulation, and imaging (ultrasound) showing multiple cysts in the ovaries. Ask your GYN physician about testing for PCOS and ask about low dose oral bcp's (the usual treatment for PCOS) unless pregnancy is desired.
