A member asked:

What percent of thyroid patients, develop iodine contrast-induced thyroid dysfunction? for example, i have diffusely enlarged thyroid/thyroiditis, but i am not being treated with medicine, what are my odds of having problems from iodine contrast?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The incidence depends on the underlying abnormality with your thyroid (is it just a goiter that is not active? ie, a euthyroid goiter? or is it hyperactive still? if so, this portends to higher risk of dysfunction. Number needed to harm: 23 for inciting hyperthyroidism. Pts with euthyroid goiter have almost 5x higher risk of ICM-induced TD than patients without thyroid nodules.
