It depend what type of physical therapy you do. Physical therapy may be as good as a walking exercise if you move your trunk and all extremities during the therapy. I wonder if you know Tai Chi which can be considered as one type of physical therapy and it can substitute walking exercise.

Such activities like walking, running, and swimming are regarded as aerobic exercises, as contrasted to stretching, range of motion, and exertional exercises. The 30-60 minutes of physical therapy supplement your regular exercises outside of your rehabilitation. Physical therapy is NOT a substitute for cardiovascular exercise!!!
