As a physician who taught physical diagnosis to 2nd year medical students for over 30 years I'm sad to say that many male & female physicians today don't examine the rectum or genitalia in their " complete" physical examinations. With an appropriate assistant in the exam room as a chaperone, we did.

Large variability in practice with genital exam being many times skipped for different reasons. In case specific symptoms or worries always a good idea to mention as a focused exam may be needed and can be scheduled for a different visit.
