It depends what you mean by dirty. If the dentist puts the tools in someone else’s mouth and then puts them in your’s, I suppose you could get HIV. The chances of a dentist doing this is slim to none. Change dentists if you think the dentist is doing this. Good luck!

There are strict sterilization protocols that we use in Dentistry to avoid infections. Additionally, that's not how HIV is transmitted. It requires direct exchange not bodily fluids. Do you worry about using a utensil in a restaurant that was previously used by another customer? Dental instruments are washed, cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, then scalded with steam or dry heart over 300 degrees.
