Has a herniated intervertebral disc in the lumbosacral spine been documented by an MRI? If so, surgery is usually not required unless symptoms persist for over 6 weeks or if pain interferes with your sleeping. See how you do with the medications that were prescribed. They can be renewed. Don't resort to bed rest. Stay active. Consult a neurosurgeon as needed.

Your medications likely will not cure any of this but can allow some pain palliation. Has your doctor discussed physical therapy, exercises such as McKenzie Back Exercises, and even injections? Operation is the answer if you have urination issues, progressive muscle weakness or atrophy, spinal cord compression, or recalcitrant pain. Bed rest is NOT recommended!!
