Body talk !: Tibia talk is hard to ignore. Pain hurts. Wise to listen to prevent further injury. Stretching and warm ups are essential - know you foot type? Often an arch support can be helpful. Remember r.I.C.E. (resticecompressionelevate) + professional consult can reduce.

Yes: I used to get shin splints all the time when i ran. I found that the most helpful stretch was for the achilles tendons prior to running. Basically, go to some stairs that have railings on both sides. Place one foot on a step with the heel hanging off the step and let it drop down while holding on with your arms on the railings. This will stretch the achilles. There are other achilles stretches too.

A few things: Like drs. Rosenfeld and whitby sasid, stretching and rice are helpful. You might also find that light compression stockings are of benefit too.

I often recommend: And have had good success with orthotics for my patient population with shin splints. If you have an average arch type, over the counter devices like spenco should suffice.
