A 35-year-old male asked:

Mri scan shows posterior disc protusion at l5 s1 level after medication/ rest it is fine very litle pain now at lower back/leg. doc says surgery?

Your choice, BUT: If you give it time, the disc will desiccate and shrink over about 9-10 months, but if it is causing unbearable pain and causing progressive weakness and muscle atrophy and threatening bladder function, best to have it fixed.
