Head injury when i was 20, had subdural hematoma, now 28 smell/taste is still not what it was but overall fully recovered great. should i get a checkup with neuro even though i'm not having any issues? only stayed 1 night in hospital and no seizures

Try zinc: Most common reason for this is that small nerves from the brain come through a bone with holes (Imagine a grater) at the top,of the nose (cribiform plate ). If this moves suddenly it amputates these olfactory a sore and you lose smell and taste. See a neurologist so this can be tested, or you can get a q tip and some scents and test yourself. Cannot grow back. Zinc supplement trial in order.

BRAIN INJURY : If I am hearing you correctly, you have NO new symptoms. If your initial injury was eight years ago and the symptoms you describe I've been present for that long, it does not sound like neurology follow up is needed at this time. If however you have new symptoms or concerns, neurology follow up would be advised.
