The vaginal mucus is adequate food & moisture for growth of a collection of germs, many that enter from the nearby anus. Any process that involves the vaginal mucus, whether noticeable or not may involve the cervix. Whether on not this applies to this case is a question best answered to the doc with all the relevant history/testing and exam data.
