Colposcopic biopsies might note changes consistent with HPV infection, but not necessarily. HPV is detected via pap smear swabs. Biopsies with colposcopy are screening for precancerous or cancerous changes of the cervix, not HPV infection. If such changes are detected you may reliably infer that an HPV infection is or has been present.
