HIV rarely causes neuropathy; only in some patients who progress to overt AIDS. In that case, neuropathy is never the only problem. Neuropathy alone rarely is ever the only or main symptom of HIV infection. Once neuropathy or other manifestations of overt AIDS are present, how long they persist depends on how effective HIV treatment is after that point. It could be weeks, months or years.
