A member asked:

Is it true paps can sometimes consistently miss lesions that are hiding higher up in the canal.?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

"Paps" are done at the squamo-columnar junction, located at the terminal end of the cervical canal, an generally do not miss potential abnormal cell growth. If there are questions about the quality of the pap smear, ask your GYN physician for a repeat smear, with perhaps a small curette introduced into the canal to obtain more tissue.
