A member asked:

I went to the pool last month and the next day i started getting asthma attacks. it lasted about a week and a half. i know the chlorine triggered it . if i wanted to go to a pool with very little bromine, would that be safe for asthma??

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Chlorine is the primary agent used to keep pool water hygienic. The problem for asthma comes as the chlorine begins to form a gas when it leaves the pool surface through evaporation. It is worse on sunny days when the pool releases more, or if there is an excess in the water. Any such agent in gaseous form can trigger asthma. I know on no other agent used this way.
