We need the dose of ferrous sulfate, TIBC and ferritin results before taking iron supplement and current results. Total RBC count Hb/Hct and red cell indices (MCV, MCH) are also helpful for a correct answer. In general, if low iron in the cause of your "unknown" anemia, the supplement may not be enough for the loss or you gut does not absorb iron well in certain GI problem.

There are a number of different, common to rare, causes leading to an anemia. You might need to see a blood disease specialist (hematologist) to expedite the diagnostic process and start a proper treatment.
