HPV can be communicated with "unprotected sex", as the virus is sometimes present even if previous pap smears are not showing dysplasia from HPV. HPV in males can be reduced or eliminated by antibodies over time, whereas in women, HPV can cause abnormal pap smears with some aggressive types of the virus.
