A member asked:

If a mother has a high risk hpv viruses infection, is there a small or chance of mother-to-child transmission of high risk hpv vires at birth?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

There is a risk of genital HPV wart strains passing to a newborn exposed during a natural vaginal birth. Genital and vocal cord warts that arise up to 2 yrs of age are occasionally seen. However, the high risk strains that would affect the cervical tissues have not been tied to maternal child transmission. The absence of direct tissue exposure is likely why this is not seen.
