While the mechanism of trazodone is not fully understood, I was surprised to find that it has some antihistamine effect & may help allergy symptoms. However,it's considered an antidepressant & some prescribe as a sleep aid.

According to many allergists, anti-depressants may occasionally have effects similar to anti-histamines and may quell allergic pollen reactions. But Trazadone is classified as an anti-depressant. The soporific effect may be similar to the side effects of Benadryl.
