The best way is to use sterile saline. Apply another sterile gauze soaked in sterile saline and allow the stuck gauze to become rehydrated. After 10 minutes or so, it should come away easily. Try using non stick gauze to cover your wound, or apply either sterile vaseline or Neosporin with regular gauze. This added moisture will encourage healing and minimize scarring.

Some warm water with betadine solution or warm salt water in a large bowl, soak a clean wash clot in it, wring most of the water out and apply that warm soak to the wound to moisten it. Repeat for a few minutes until the "stuck gauze" lifts on its own. And voila! It's done with no wound damage. No pulling or tugging!
