Try : Try soaking it in plain warm water until the scab is loose enough to free the stuck gauze. It might start to bleed again, but it shouldn't bleed much or long. Before you do this, go get some non-stick band aids so you have something to cover it back up with that won't stick again. Also, i assume part of the er instructions they gave you was to follow-up with your doctor, which sounds like a good idea here.

Soak.: You may apply saline or peroxide to help remove the gauze.
