Heavy retching with vomit can cause bleeding from the esophagus (food pipe) and the condition is often self limited. This can happen in hyperemesis gravidarum or bulimia or severe acute gastritis due to food poisoning, etc. If you do not see any more blood in the vomitus you are safe. However, underlying problem needs to be identified and treated.
