Can ra cause painful bone spurs on outer points of elbow? i am a 42 yo with ra who doesnt suffer from osteo elsewhere. the elbow awakens me constantly at night in pain. if it is too straight or too bent, i awake in pain, even on elbow -pain free days?

Did X-Rays show the bone spurs? RA can cause elbow pain but when I see spur formation, I think of old injuries & wear and tear causes or can this be recent onset subacute bursitis? If resting the elbow & a course of anti-inflammatory medication don't relieve your symptoms, consult your physician or an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation & advice.

RA can definitely cause such changes, however other possible contributors cannot be ruled out. Best would be to see your rheumatologist as sometimes an elbow injection aside from meds may provide relief and have the overall issue clarified in the context of your known RA.
