Minoxidil in much higher dose has been used as a tertiary anti-hypertensive drug for years when the conventional drugs in first and second tiers fail to control BP. One serious side effect on the heart is pericardial effusion, usually at high dose, rare but sill possible at low dose. If med is effective in growing hair, he can continue but doctor needs to monitor your husband for this side effect.
