Many times, however return to extreme activities should be gradual under supervision as local symptoms may persist indefinitely and straining recovering tissue may compromise the healing process.

Yes but it takes a lot of rehabilitation post injury. Initially, it just needs to heal, which takes about 6-8 weeks, then the muscles around the ankle need to improve in strength and your propriception sense of where the ankle is needs to improve to prevent re-inury. All of this takes several months and a lot of dedication.
