A member asked:

Recently recovered from a bad bout of rsv (50 yo f) but have residual tongue pain that only hurts when i swallow or move it. could this be related, or could it be something unrelated to my recent illness? no ulcers or spots on tongue?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

You are right that a number of infections could affect the tongue and cause inflammation. It may be important to make sure of adequacy of your nutrition especially micronutrients could also cause pain like vitamin deficiencies. There is increased demand and depletion of vitamins during illnesses. Avoid smoking, alcohol, and spicy food may be helpful in limiting the pain and speed recovery.
