If his positive test was a PCR or culture for HSV, you may well have been exposed. If a positive blood test, it wasn't necessarily active or transmissible infection at the time of exposure. (If no visible outbreak, genital HSV2 is transmitted about once for every 1,000 episodes of unprotected vaginal sex.) If he has HSV2, in the long run condoms are not very effective; he might need to be on Rx.
