While I've been familiar with polymyositis I'm unfamiliar with this myopathy. My reading suggests that treatments are available that allow patients to survive some years if they respond to them. The myositis from statins isn't immune mediated. I prefer pravastatin for mild lipidemia treatment& rosuvastatin for more intensive treatment as these statins are hydrophilic,cleaner,less myositis causing

Immune myopathy is rare -2-3/100000. It is diagnosed by anti-HMG-CoA-reductase antibodies/imaging. Presents with proximal muscle weakness - antibodies should be drawn(CK will be elevated as well but need the muscle weakness). Rosuvastatin 10 mg and Fluvastatin XL 80 mg have the lowest incidence of myopathy per article in Healthnews.
