A 31-year-old male asked about a 79-year-old female:

which statin drug work best for lowering triglycerides level at the same time not affecting sugar profile or causing myopathy ?

1 doctor answer2 doctors weighed in
Dr. Donald Colantino
Internal Medicine 61 years experience
Triglycerides: I don't rely on statins to lower serum triglycerides but, in addition to dietary measures, omega 3 fish oil, taking fibric acid deriverative medications like fenofibrate and taking high dose niacin are effective. You have to take very high doses of statins in order to effectively lower serum triglycerides. Fibrates can cause myopathy and one has to be very cautious using them together with statins.
