Everybody with diabetes should be "worried". If you're not in medical care or if your diabetes is not in good control (as measured by blood glucose levels and A1c hemoglobin levels), see your doctor soon and follow whatever treatment advice you are given. Good luck.

You have diabetes of the Type 2 type. Usually means adult onset. This type tends to run in families. It gallops in other families. So do family tree for diabetes. Often this will go away if you feed your genetic roots correctly. Get BMI down to 25 and it may be "gone".

Dietary and weight loss measures with exercise may allow you to do quite well, but medications can be employed if these steps are incomplete. But if you are overweight, have trouble exercising, or following a strict diet, you are at risk for complications which include neuropathy, nephropathy, and retinopathy. Work closely with your doctor.
