A member asked:

All research i can find on the cold pressor test only discusses the fact it does or should raise bp. i did this test on my self and within 1 minute my bp went from 148/82 to 72/58 followed by passing out and then vomiting. what caused that?

I haven't thought of the cold pressor test since my cardiovascular fellowship in the 1960's. We performed it to identify people prone to hypertension. You had a paradoxical response most likely from stimulation of your vagus nerve causing reflex decrease in heart rate resulting in significant drop in BP, loss of consciousness, nausea& vomiting with no serious consequences thankfully. Don't repeat
