Oral HPV occurs but much less frequent than genital. (In the US, oral HPV is about 15% as common as genital.) Even when one partner is infected, probably the virus is NOT transmitted during most episodes of oral sex, but sometimes it happens. Even more than genital HPV, most oral infections cause no symptoms or disease; throat cancer due to HPV16 is rare. Vaccine is effective prevention.
