Depends: It takes at least 10-14 days for antibodies to form after initiation of infection, and if the ELISA assay is done before adequate levels of antibody are formed it may be falsely negative. If it is negative and there has been the potential for exposure it should be repeated as often as necessary until 4-6 months have elapsed.
