A member asked:

Could a clot in leg go on for several months without getting worse? my son complains of back of leg bothering him for over 3 months, no swelling or redness, just a weird feeling, some days feels better & then it comes back, could it be a nerve?

Although there is not enough detail here to give you a definitive diagnosis of the cause of your son's leg discomfort, I am not hearing anything that would suggest a chronic blood clot or nerve problem. If this is a persistent problem, then he should have a full physical and history performed. He should contact his primary care doctor or consider an initial consult on HealthTap. Good luck.

A calf vein damaged by a prior blood clot often causes some swelling of the lower leg, ankle or foot. An irritable superficial nerve or calf muscle may be causing that vague leg feeling. I doubt a serious problem. As suggested by Dr. S, an examination by a physician is worthwhile and would reassure your son.
