No, echocardiogram is enough for initial evaluation and progress monitoring. Pro BNP can be used in acute setting (in the hospital) after aggressive therapy but it is not a useful marker for outpatient follow up. Furthermore, pro BNP varies a lot with other conditions, not only heart failure.
