The back of my neck suddenly just started feeling hot, like a sunburn would feel or as if someone had a hot washcloth on it. no pain but it does feel a little swollen? what could this be? it came on so suddenly and seems to be spreading a little?

It could be the initial symptom of shingles (herpes zoster outbreak) if it only involves one side of the neck. The diagnosis can be confirmed when vesicular rashes appear on that area then you should see your doctor or visit urgent care for the treatment.
