I am not a gastroenterologist but Mild diverticulitis is quite common and can be treated with antibiotics, rest, high fiber diet. drink plenty of water daily. Severe or recurring diverticulitis may require surgery.

If you have acute diverticulitis of the colon you should start on a liqudsdiet & progress to soft solids, avoiding roughage. With con tinued improvement advance to regular diet. For maintenance I recommend avoiding harsh roughage like corn, popcorn, and other undigestible fiber. However modern gastroenterologists seem to poo poo this advice and recommend no restrictions if you aren't symptomatic
