I was lifting my bed onto a bed riser and heard and felt a pop in my low back, then excruciating pain and couldn't straighten up. better but still pain 1 week later. what most likely happened and at what point do i need x-rays (no ins)?

Usually this sort of thing is just muscle spasm. If the pain continues to improve (even if it takes a few weeks) and you have no other symptoms, probably you don't need medical care. However, if you have symptoms of nerve compression -- like pain shooting down a leg, or numbness or tingling of a leg, groin, buttocks and so on, it could mean a ruptured spinal disk. If so, see a doctor soon.
