A member asked:

Under natural unmedicated circumstances what would cause a follicle to stop growing/maturing beyond 13 or 14 mm?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A given follicle may grow to "13-14 mm" under the stimulation of pituitary hormones (FSH) but not rupture at ovulation, especially at age "42", when eggs age and more FSH production stimulates follicles but ovulation may not occur. Ask yur GYN physician about low dose oral bcp's, which stop ovarian estrogen, and inhibit FSH from the pituitary.
