A member asked:

Hemoglobin 10.1 hematocrit 31.9 % is that low enough to cause symptoms including severe tiredness and shortness of breath?

If this anemia is of gradual onset symptoms may be minimal. Abrupt onset anemias are more symptomatic. At your age a gradual iron deficiency anemia caused by years of monthly menstrual blood loss is the most likely cause of your mild to moderate anemia. Taking appropriate iron supplement should correct the iron deficiency&anemia over a period of weeks or a few months. Discuss issues with your MD

Unless this anemia occurred very suddenly like over two or three days it should not cause weakness shortness of breath severe tiredness or any significant symptoms. recommend consulting with your primary care physician or OB/GYN for a diagnosis and treatment.
