My dentist recommends brushing twice daily for 3 minutes each, but i find the time length difficult. could i instead brush four times a day at 1.5 minutes each?

Has not been tested that I am aware of. But I tell my patients to only brush the ones they want to keep. ;-) I would ask you dentist. And you can go to pubmed .gov search teeth brushing AND research.

Unless you have gum disease, brushing 3 times a day for at least 1-2 minutes is good, after meals with a soft brush ,is recommended. With gum disease, a more thorough brushing is necessary.
