HPV DNA commonly can be detected under the fingernails of people with HPV infections, but presence of DNA does not necessarily mean complete virus that can be transmitted. HPV is rarely if ever transmitted by finger contact, and it is rarely transmitted to previously uninfected body parts. This is nothing to worry about.
