Oral HPV infection is less common than genital, but is not strongly associated with oral sex. This might be one mechanism by which it occurs, but there are no data. It doesn't matter, however: when present, oral HPV almost never causes warts or other health problems. One type (HPV16) causes throat cancer, but very, very rarely. If vaccinated against HPV, you are protected from HPV16.
