Metronidazole doesn't generally cause such side effects. Best to check with your doctor, and perhaps (at her discretion) to have a urinalysis and culture to check on UTI possibility -- especially if you've had UTIs previously and the symptoms are the same. (MTZ is not effective against most UTI bacteria, so it is possible to develop UTI while taking it.)
