Hi, in a g6pd patient,if the patient is allergic to penicillins then what are the alternative medications to treat dental infections in such patients.? also can metronidazole be given to a g6pd patient.? thanks?

Most people who are allergic to PCN do not have problem with cephalosporin antibiotic so you can take first or second generation cephalosporin. Dentists commonly prescribe cephalexin (keflex). Erythromycin or clindamycin can also be used in patients with G6PD. We do not use metronidazole for oral condition but it is not contraindicated in G6PD patients.
