Yes, it could be a significant risk factor in a patient with severe ischemic heart disease but many conditions (cardiac or non cardiac) result in low QRS voltage. By my limited knowledge in cardiology, I do not think there is an association between low QRS voltage and risk of sudden cardiac death.
