A member asked:

Is it okay to swallow phlegm? i'm unable to spit it out because it makes me feel like i'm choking or will vomit. i'm concerned if swallowing phlegm will make my sickness last longer or if it could have any other negative effects on my health?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Many people swallow their phlegm or sputum without adverse consequences. It is simply digested without spreading any infection to other parts of your body.
