Everytime i fall asleep, i wake up about and hour later with an elevated heart rate that eventually slows down after some deep breathing. and it repeats over and over for the past two weeks. what could be causing this?

Symptoms are suggesting sleep disordered breathing with sleep apnea the most notorious in the spectrum of such disorders. Try to lose weight if applicable, talk to your doc about your symptoms.

It is not feasible to provide an opinion without additional history, physical examination may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor to see if you may be depressed. Depression is treatable. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water.
