A member asked:

If i have had a herniated disc for a year and it has not been treated, is there a chance that it has caused permanent damage? i have a little pain and a little numbness in my legs?

90% of herniated discs will improve in 6 months. Stay active & avoid things that makes pain worse. Over the counter pain relievers as needed. Watch for any changes in your symptoms, especially if they keep you from doing your daily activities. See your doctor for problems controlling your bowel or bladder and any numbness of the inner thighs/back of legs, and/or around the rectum.

Several yrs ago, a European radiology study showed ruptured discs could dessicate and shrink within 6-9 months obviating need for surgery. Chances are that you have successfully dodged the bullet
