A member asked:

My father has wpw and has covid right now and has been having an episode for more than 24 hours now. it's not a constant high heart rate but is an irregular beat. his heart rate is in the 80's. bp is not registering on monitor. is this an emergency?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I consider this an urgent need to have an EKG to determine the nature of his irregular heart rhythm. Atrial fibrillation, an irregularly irregular cardiac rhythm, in the presence of Wolf Parkinson White syndrome can go on to have a very rapid ventricular rate if transmission of atrial impulses travel down the accessory pathway. New onset A fib, even without WPW requires immediate attention also
